Current Role

CEO and Consultant/ Cognitive Psychologist, Gabrielle Consulting. Major clients include universities, business, and state and federal governments. Examples include Wachovia, FL Dept. of Children & Families, FL Dept. of Health, City of Tallahassee, and U.S. Navy.  Began in 1990 to supplement my income while furthering my education; now is a thriving small business. Primary function since 1996 has been on human performance technology, technology-mediated and distance learning, and instructional systems design.

Administrative &

Management Positions

Professor & Associate Director, Center for Teaching Excellence, United States Military Academy. As part of the Dean’s faculty, I worked with all academic departments to support faculty and improve teaching and learning. My primary role was effective integration of technology including PDAs, Internet, intranet, SmartBoard, and 802.11a/b/g wireless.  I managed the Advanced Technology Classroom Laboratory, a testbed for new technologies to be deployed to other classrooms, and headed several academic committees including one to purchase and customize a course management system.  This included a dissertation fellowship where I collected extensive data in a double blind experiment with 20% (N=784) of the cadet population. I also taught computer science courses.

Project Manager (faculty), Florida State University, Learning Systems Institute (LSI). $6.2 million Dept. of Homeland Security grant to design, develop, and deliver training for U.S. port security personnel. Collaborated with 12 national seaports and hired FSU team.

Head of Training & Development, Florida Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services. Responsible for planning, instructional systems design and development, and department-wide training (supervisory, ADA, sexual harassment, etc.) for all 3500 employees. Initiated innovative programs including distance learning and telecommuting.

Project Manager/ IT Administrator, Florida Dept. of Corrections/ Justice Distance Learning Consortium, Tallahassee, FL, Austin, TX, Albany, NY & Washington, D.C. $10 million STAR Schools project. Responsible for strategic planning, technology, training, and instructional systems design and development for teachers and students in youthful offender institutions.  Initiated SAFETY-NET Institute in Florida, Texas, and New York.

Operations & Program Manager, Florida State University. Head of cable TV channel. Worked before startup to purchase equipment, hire personnel, and program 24/7 station. Initiated innovative programs involving communication students in newscasting and meteorology students in weathercasting. Directed/hosted show featuring film school films. Televised engineering and library & information sciences distance learning programs.

 

Vice President of Instructional Systems Design and Distance Learning, International Culture & Technology Transfer (ICATT) Consulting, Jacksonville. Strategic planning. Led projects with state, federal government, private sector including online TQM project.

 

Training & Research Manager, Florida Dept. of Revenue.  Responsible for web-based instructional systems design and development in the TQM agency.

 

Instructional Television Manager, Bay District Schools, Panama City, FL. Responsible for strategic planning including installation, maintenance, and design of CCTV, A/V, intercom equipment, computer cabling, and video production efforts of all 34 schools in the district. Managed 2 TV stations carried on 6 cable companies. Initiated innovative PR show to share information with district personnel and the community. Secured DOE grant with GCCC. Completed extensive Assisting Change in Education (TQM) training.

Currently working toward instructor certification to specialize in teaching people with disabilities (especially with paraplegia and quadriplegia) how to SCUBA dive.
